Your Hostess

meet-your-hostess-inn-cuisine1a1As a writer, amateur photographer and avid cook, I created Inn Cuisine to indulge in a few of my favorite things: bed & breakfast inns, cooking, baking, mouthwatering recipes, food photography & styling. But, as a reader, I understand there are times you long to know a little more about the voice behind the blog, and that’s where this helpful Q&A comes in. Enjoy!

Q. Do you own a bed & breakfast?

A. No, but I do enjoy staying at them. Even moreso, recreating their signature recipes and entertaining family & friends at home.

Q. Are you a professional chef?

A. Not even close, although I do consider myself an accomplished cook (after 25+ years in the kitchen). My schooling has always been hands-on, trial by fire. Luckily, I have had some fantastic mentors along the way.

Q. How long have you been writing?

A. 20+ years. My first job was in radio. I worked as an advertising copywriter and loved every minute of it, even though I was horrifically underpaid.

Q. Where do you reside?

A. Kansas City.

Q. Besides baking, blogging and photography, what do you enjoy?

A. Spending time with my family, antiquing, sewing and walking our dog.

Q. What kind of dog do you have?

A.  A Chesapeake Bay Retriever, adopted from a local shelter.

Q. Who is your favorite food writer?

A. That’s a tough one. The baker in me would answer Dorie Greenspan, while the blogger would answer Molly Wizenberg of Orangette (now Bon Appetit). I also enjoy the work of Dianne Jacob (Will Write For Food) and Michael Ruhlman.

Q. What is your favorite food?

A. That’s as hard as trying to pick a favorite writer—each brings something different to the table, in this case, literally. I’d have to say eggs, they are so versatile.

Q. What do you enjoy most about blogging?

A. Its immediacy.

Q. Name one thing you can’t live without?

A. There’s two: sunshine and love.

As your hostess, I welcome you to Inn Cuisine. I hope you’ll subscribe to this site’s free RSS feed (also available via email), bookmark your favorite recipes, leave a comment, tell a friend and visit here often. At this table, however virtual, the more the merrier. Thanks for dropping by!
