Every once in a while, a recipe comes along that catches your eye.
Curious about that layer on the bottom? It's sugared, cinnamon apples, covered with Cheddar and bathed in eggs and cream.
Perhaps it’s something new, something you haven’t before tried. Or perhaps it’s an intriguing combination of savory and sweet, with just the right amount of uniqueness to liven up your next brunch. If that’s the sort of recipe you’re looking for, stay tuned—you are about to fall under the spell of a delightful Apple Cinnamon Quiche from The Grove, the Inn on Harlee, in Marion, South Carolina.
Pleasant surprise: An intriguing combination of savory and sweet, I enjoyed the flavor, texture and consistency of this quiche even more than I expected. While I wasn't sure about the addition of Cheddar, it won me over in the end!
Not too sweet and not too savory, this quiche is just right for wowing brunch guests. Layered first with sugared, cinnamon apples that are set in a pie shell and topped with Cheddar cheese, the base gets bathed in a mixture of eggs and heavy cream and baked until set. The result? An Apple Cinnamon Quiche that’s both fruity and savory, with a firm, custard-like top. Not quite a meal unto itself, not quite a dessert, yet ideally suited to pairing with other brunch foods—this quiche is gets it just right.
Don’t do brunch? Consider serving this at baby showers, housewarmings, or even your next Bunko party or book club. The possibilities are limitless. While certainly not a scene stealer, this Apple Cinnamon Quiche quite competently holds its own.
Enjoy!
One bite of this Apple Cinnamon Quiche will make you a believer.
Apple Cinnamon Quiche
(featured on Inn Cuisine, recipe courtesy The Grove, the Inn on Harlee, Marion, South Carolina)
- 1 pie crust, unbaked
- 3 medium apples, baker’s choice, peeled and sliced thinly
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
- 3 large eggs
- 1 & 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Press pie crust into a 9″ pie plate and set aside. Sauté apples in butter, sugar and cinnamon until the apples are tender, about 5-8 minutes. Meanwhile, whisk eggs and heavy whipping cream together until well blended. Place apples in the bottom of crust and cover evenly with shredded cheese. Gently pour egg and cream mixture over the apples and cheese. Bake quiche in the middle of a preheated 325 degree F oven for 35-40 minutes (depending on the accuracy of your oven), or until set (quiche no longer jiggles when shaken). Remove from oven, allow to cool to about room temperature, then slice before serving. May be served at room temperature or chilled.

The combination of baked apples and Cheddar cheese brings me right back home to New England, where apple pie is traditionally topped with a slice of Cheddar. I’d never have thought to bring those flavors together in a quiche!
this is AMAZING!!!! Im saving to make soon!!! loving it!
I love the sweet and savory combo!
This combination reminds me of childhood snacks of apples and cheddar cheese. Very unique and I bet it was delicious!!
What a fabulous and unusual recipe!
But when you think about it, lots of people love cheddar on their apple pie..so why wouldn’t this be delicious? I’m going to try this next week; not even going to do a test run! See how much I trust you??
Getting to love almost anything that has fruit in it, talk about what one thinks about coming about WOW!! Thanks Sandie will definetly be trying this very soon..
i don’t know if i’d be brave enough to try this, even though cinnamon and apples are involved! i always shudder to think of cheddar cheese on apple pie and this is a bit reminiscent of that. it sure is a looker though!
This looks completely interesting. Not a combination I would ever think of putting together for sure! Worth giving it a go.
Lydia – Having never visited New England (I think it’s time to change that, don’t you?), I didn’t realize topping apple pie with a slice of Cheddar is a tradition. I wonder if this quiche has New England roots?
Jennifer – Enjoy!
Maria – Me too. I’m really into sweet & savory combinations these days.
Val – I’m beginning to get the feeling everyone has tried apples and cheddar except for me! Well, that’s not quite true, I have had apples and cheddar on sandwiches before (paninis). Really a scrumptious combo!
Barbara – Another cheddar on apple pie person, oh my! While I can’t speak for its deliciousness on pie, I can tell you that this quiche was good. Not great, but definitely good. It’s actually one of the harder dishes to explain—one of those foods you just have to try to experience. I hope you like it (and thank you, dear, for putting your trust in me. I would hate to let you down).
Micky – You’re welcome, enjoy!
Grace – Thanks. I haven’t tried the cheddar on apple pie thing myself, but this quiche is tastier than one might imagine. I was pleasantly surprised. Not too sweet—not too savory…perhaps you’ll try it in an adventurous moment!
Lori – Interesting. Yes. I totally agree. Not a quiche I would have come up with myself, but one I’m certainly glad I tried. In the end, I would make it again and definitely serve it at a weekend brunch!
this quiche looks amazing!!
You can add me to the group that has never had cheddar cheese on apple pie but this quiche sounds amazing!
oh you know i would love this. right up my flavor-fun alley!
Wow…what a recipe! I love sweet and savory and find apples and cheddar to be a fantastic combination of flavors. I have got to try this!
I am so trying this. I love opposing flavors mixed together — everyone else looks at me strangely when I put a slice of cheddar on warm apple pie — and this seems perfect. Thanks so much for sharing.
