Lydia - The cranberry version sound delightful. I'm a huge fan of cranberries and find the thought of serving their preserves over warm Brie utterly divine. I'll be trying that this upcoming holiday season.

Chef Aimee - How lucky your grandparents had a fig tree in their yard! I bet you have fond memories associated with figs :)

Grace - I agree with the puff pastry addition. There was a print ad this past holiday season featuring a big slab of Brie wrapped up in puff pastry with a bow. To say it looked appetizing is the understatement of the year!

Deana - Thanks! I know Chloe (her photos) is going to love hearing your positive feedback.

aw, figs are purty! i love this appetizer, sandie, but i must say that it appeals to me more when puff pastry is involved. that buttery, flaky stuff is the cat's meow. :)

Oh I love figs! My grandparents had a fig tree in their yard - so delicious! I love how you added them to brie for a lovely appetizer!

Another variation is dried cranberries with brie. Here in New England, there are lots of homemade cranberries preserves at the farm stands, and combining cranberry with basil (red and green) on a baked brie is a typical holiday dish in these parts.

Susan & All About Food - Since you both mentioned apricots with figs, let me direct you to this tapenade recipe (served atop goat cheese) which I adapted from my Bon Appetit cookbook. While it's not the most gorgeous appetizer to look at, it is a tasty combination of flavors that I believe you'd both appreciate:

Thanks for stopping by!

Val - This is precisely why Chloe submitted her fig preserves recipe last year when figs were in season and more widely available. Luckily, fig preserves are available year-round at your local grocer. That said, I agree with you whole heartedly, can't wait till fresh figs are available again locally!

Gera - Thank you. Enjoy your weekend as well :)

Such beautiful photos. I'll be saving this idea for a time when fresh figs are available here. I'd love to make my own fig preserves. This time of year I make an apricot-fig tapenade using dried fruit to serve over creamy brie.
