Enter as Strangers, Leave as Friends: The Aska Lodge

Do you dream of escaping the concrete jungle and leaving behind the daily grind? Have thoughts of getting away from life’s hustle and bustle and breathing in a dose of fresh, mountain air?

Maybe you long to walk where birds of prey soar overhead and leaves still crinkle beneath your feet, each step leading you closer to nature’s peace and tranquility?

Located approximately an hour and a half from both Atlanta, Georgia and Chattanooga, Tennessee, Bob and Mary Jo Stamper invite you to leave your cares behind and allow them to pamper you, as you become their guest at the Aska Lodge of Blue Ridge, Georgia.

Nestled within north Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, running the Aska Lodge is a dream come true for innkeepers/owners Bob and Mary Jo. Having discovered the property in October 2007, Bob and Mary Jo moved in that December and spent the next few months transforming the house into luxury accommodations capable of welcoming guests from all over the world.

Above the Aska Lodge entrance is a sign that reads, “Enter as strangers—Leave as friends.” During the next few days, we’ll be getting better acquainted with Bob and Mary Jo, as well as discovering both the hidden and obvious beauties of their B&B, the Aska Lodge.

Coming up, a one-on-one interview with Mary Jo, an LPN turned innkeeper, who will have you wishing our visit with the Aska Lodge would never end. Will she be sharing any of her inn’s finest recipes? Stay with us to find out!

I have stayed several times at the Aska Lodge and all my visits were wonderful. Bob & Mary Jo go that extra step to help make you feel pampered. The gourmet breakfast is a delightful treat, the accommodations are cozy and relaxing, the sites, sounds, and scents are peaceful. Bob and Mary Jo are excellent hosts making sure you have everything you need to enjoy your stay with them. I’ll be back for sure.

The “bottomless” cookie jar is one of my favorite parts of our several visits to Aska Lodge. Yummy! :-)

My wife and I first met Bob and Mary Jo in France and have kept in touch since. They are both warm and accomodating people, and I can recommend a stay at Aska Lodge. In fact we are going back in November to get to the bottom of that cookie jar and more… The mountain air, the peace, a bit of fishing and maybe this time some bear spotting.

My husband and I have stayed at the Aska Lodge twice and each time it was fabulous! It is hard to pick which candlelight breakfast would be my favorite but I must say the Praline French Toast and the Bake Brie Strata were delicious. We are looking forward to our next trip to the Aska Lodge for the quiet and relaxation. We highly recommend the Aska Lodge!!

I visited the Aska Lodge this summer and felt thoroughly pampered. I’m the type of person that usually skips breakfast or grabs something to eat in the car on the way to work. I didn’t know if I would like having a real sit-down breakfast. Little did I know what delicious recipes were in store! I had a wonderful breakfast pizza served with fresh fruit. I also had chocolate muffins with the famous carrot cake freezer jam and homemade granola. Breakfast at the Aska Lodge ruined me for my normal on-the-go way of eating in the morning. I might even live dangerously and try my hand at re-creating some of these recipes in my own kitchen!

My husband and I first met Mary Jo through a care package she and Aunt Mary sent me while I was in Afghanistan. I wrote back and thanked them and we started emailing each other regularly throughout my 18 month deployment. I met my husband during the deployment but his unit was sent to a different FOB and we were seperated for the last 8 months of deployment. She kept me strong and even sent care packages out to my husband!
We returned to the US in June 2007, got married June 2008, and flew to GA (we live in NY), for our honeymoon to finally meet her and see this wonderful B&B I had heard so much about. Throughout our emails I was told of the place when she found it, about all the renovations she was doing, and my husband & I were amazed at how beautiful the Aska Lodge was! She can sure cook and when you are there- you are really are family- even with the other guests stayings there! We hope to fly down there every year now as our vacation…it really is the best B&B we’ve ever been to!!!
